Worship Him with the Mathematics of Joy

I saw this enthralling video this morning and immediately my mind went in a million directions.  Here is one of them.

Give thanks to the LORD with the lyre; make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!  Sing to him a new song; play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.  For the word of the LORD is upright, and all his work is done in faithfulness.  Psalm 33:2-4

Music is mathematics with wings. Especially noticeable in videos like this one. There is not one God of mathematics and another God of beauty and another God of music and another God of joy.

Hear O Israel! The LORD our God, the LORD is one!  You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Deuteronomy 6:4-5

YHWH, the true living God is a both God of integrity and a God with integrity.  He is characterized by a oneness and unity in which one distinctive aspect or characteristic does not abrogate or minimize another.  His holiness, truthfulness, love, justice, mercy, wrath, jealousy, etc. are in harmony with each other and never at odds.  Likewise, the three persons of the Triune Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are eternally in harmony and never at odds in will, purpose, or action.

For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. Romans 1:19-20

This is why His manifold wonders and works all point to the singularity of the true harmonious One God in whom there is no division, confusion, contention, striving or internal struggle.  All the diversity of creation points to the unity of God.

His true worshippers likewise are called to worship Him with integrity, that is, with every part of our selves in wholeness and harmonious integrity.

I would wager that most of us do not often think about worshipping the Lord with mathematics.  This video reminded me this morning that the God who created music created mathematics, philosophy, dance, carpentry, eating, sleep, and child-rearing.  Even those who deny God cannot build anything beautiful, logical, rational, emotionally uplifting, or mentally stimulating without borrowing from His toolchest.  Even though this video has nothing remotely religious in it I cannot watch this video without thinking “There is incontrovertibly a living and holy God who undergirds all things and is the source of all joy and worth.”

How can we worship God with integrity?  Is it even possible?  Paul certainly thought so.

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  1 Corinthians 10:31

So among other things, let us worship the Lord with the mathematics of song, the mathematics of joy.

I’m not seeing the image that you mentioned. (I’m assuming you were talking about the grid of “related videos” at the end. Also, I think those are randomly generated.)

Nice! I actually had been reading that area of Psalms earlier this week and thought, I could not play beautiful music for God with the lyre (kind of sad moment), but thankful we are called to praise in everything.
